History

The GammaPix (TM) technology was invented and developed by Dr. Eric Rubenstein of Advanced Fuel Research, Inc.(AFR), AFRinc.com. AFR is a Connecticut research and development company with an extensive history of contract research for the Departments of Defense, Energy, and Homeland Security, as well as the National Science Foundation, NASA, National Academy of Science and the EPA. AFR is one of the most successful winners of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts in the U.S. The patent-protected GammaPix (TM) technology (U.S. Patent Nos. 7,391,028 and 7,737,410 plus foreign filings) has been under development since 2002 with over $2.5 million in government support. The Department of Homeland Security has funded the development of the GammaPix (TM) technology for use with surveillance cameras.

Recent Events

In November 2010, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) signed a contract with AFR for $679,000 to develop the GammaPix (TM) technology for use with smartphones. In December 2010, Image Insight, Inc. (the Company) was formed with Dr. Eric Rubenstein (inventor of the GammaPix (TM) technology) as President, Dr. Peter Solomon (Founder of AFR) as Treasurer and Dr. Michael Serio (President of AFR) as Secretary. The objective of the Company was the acquisition and commercialization of the GammaPix (TM) technology. In February of 2011, the Company successfully negotiated and signed an agreement with AFR to obtain exclusive commercial rights to the technology. AFR has a successful track record of winning government contracts to support technology developments that can lead new businesses. Image Insight, Inc. is the third spinoff from AFR. Its first spin-off sold in 2001 for $23 million.
